 Student types

1. Candidates WITH an Erasmus Mundus PhD grant

For 2016 FUSION-DC we had 6 Erasmus Mundus grants available

  • 5 grants for Partner Country (Category A) candidates
  • 1 grants for Programme County (Category B) candidates

Partner Country (Category A) candidates: candidates who come from a country other than EU member states and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in these countries. (The only exception to this rule applies to Third-Country doctoral candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an Erasmus Mundus Master Course.)

Summarized: Category A candidates have to be third-country applicants: they cannot come from one of the 27 EU member states or an EEA-EFTA state (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway)
Programme Country (Category B) candidates: Any candidate who does not fulfill the criteria of a category A applicant.

Fellowship candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria for both Category A and B – e.g. students with double nationality – must select the Category of their choice. As a result, they are entitled to apply only to one of the two categories of fellowship at a time.

2. Candidates WITHOUT an Erasmus Mundus PhD grant

FUSION-DC aims to attract PhD candidates without an Erasmus Mundus grant but who have secured funding for their PhD by other means (for example a national PhD grant). These types of candidates also need to fulfill the FUSION-DC requirements in order to receive a FUSION-DC PhD (admission requirements, language requirements, research in one of the 6 predefined scientific fields).
These students will need to adhere to all FUSION-DC conditions and regulations (admission requirements, language requirements, research in one of the 6 predefined research fields), in particular regarding the mandatory mobility scheme. They only have to pay a yearly contribution to the FUSION-DC fund (240 euro).

These types of students will have equal rights in the FUSION-DC network and thus will have access to the same facilities as FUSION-DC candidates with an Erasmus Mundus grant.

See here for more information on how to participate without an Erasmus Mundus grant.
